Welcome to the Show

I grew up in the tiny town of Dimmitt in the Texas panhandle and went on to become a lawyer, a Texas state senator, and even a US congressman back in the late 70s and early 80s. As you can imagine, I've gathered no shortage of captivating tales and hard-won wisdom over my decades navigating life, from my early days on the plains of West Texas to elected office in Austin and Washington DC.

Now I aim to share some of those stories and perspectives with y'all each week on my podcast. On The Best Storyteller in Texas, I peel back the layers on topics ranging from my upbringing in rural Texas to my journey to Capitol Hill and back again. I share my plainspoken, no-nonsense take on politics past and present, chat with old friends and former colleagues, and swap some darn good stories along the way.
